Congratulations to our U14 hurlers who made it a huge day for the Club when they qualified to represent Kilkenny in the National 2014 Feile when they won the Roinn B Feile Competition in Palmerstown on Mon 5th May. The qualifiers for this were played previously in Ballyhale on 27th April where the Bridge played 4 teams in their group. They played Kilmacow first which was a close game up to half time , but the Bridge pulled away in the second half to win . Next up were the Rower Inistioge and again the Bridge prevailed. They then faced Gowran which was a titanic tussle with Gowran up by a point at half time and in a see-saw 2nd half , Gowran subsequently went on to lead by 4 points with 5 mins remaining. However, the Bridge fought back magnificently to emerge winners by a single point at the very end. Lastly they took on Slieverue and again they were a point behind at half time , but put on a great 2nd half display to pull away to victory.
Having topped their group , they then progressed to the semi-final in Palmerstown on May 5th where they again faced Kilmacow who had finished runners-up in the qualifying group. Again, the first half was an evenly matched affair but the Bridge put in a great second half display to win , holding their opponents scoreless in the process. They faced Emeralds in the final in blustery conditions and the exchanges were close but the Bridge played some great hurling against physically bigger opponents and held the lead at half time 1-3 to 0-3. The second half remained close but the Bridges ability to take points saw them start to pull away . Emeralds fought back with a goal but the Bridge responded immediately with a goal of their own and went on to win to scenes of great jubilation from players and supporters alike. Over the course of the 2 days , this team put in tremendous performances and victories were achieved not only on great individual displays , of which there were many , but also on the great interplay and teamwork this entire team displayed. This result means they will travel to Ulster for the Feile which takes place from June 20th to 22nd and our hosts are Loughgiel Shamriocks in north Antrim. It is a huge honour for the Club to represent Kilkenny in the National Feile and players & parents are really looking forward to the trip. In order to finance this trip , additional funds will be needed and the Bord na nÓg Committee has sprung into action with various fundraisers planned over the coming weeks and the Committee look forward to the continued generosity of parishioners in supporting these fundraisers. The Committee met with the Parents this week to discuss the logistics of what should be a memorable weekend. |
