Bennettsbridge played out an epic league final against Piltown in Hugginstown last Saturday evening. Played at tremendous pace and commitment levels from both sides it was nip and tuck all the way. Piltown showed they were really up for this game and started the brighter opening up a 3 point lead before the Bridge side got off the mark with a pointed free from Nicky Cleere. Piltown added a further 3 points before Kevin Blanchfield added a point for the Bridge. On the 12th minute with the scores at 7-3 Kevin Blanchfield scored the 1st Bridge goal which only helped to stir the rest of the team to life. 2 more quick points from Willie Murphy and Hugh O Neill put the Bridge in front but Piltown were not going to lie down. 3 Points for them and 1 from Sean Morrissey left them 9 points to 1-5 in front before Micheal Shiel struck for the 2nd Bridge goal. Straight after this goal the Bridge were in again for another goal only to be called back after Hugh O Neill was fouled on a run towards the Piltown goal and what would have been a 3 pointer ended up just a single. The half ended 2-9 to 13 points in favour of the Bridge. The 2nd half was as fast as the 1st and points were exchanged almost point for point with some lovely scores coming from Brian Lannon and Sean Morrissey along with some sharp shooting from Nicky Cleere nearing the end which ensured the Bridge boys brought home the silverware. This was a great preparation game for the championship ¼ final coming up in 2 weeks and whoever the lads get it won’t be easy so games like this one will stand to them.
