Bennettsbridge U21 record a good win against old foes Lisdowney

After a quiet number of weeks things sprang into action again last Saturday in Castlecomer when our U21 team took on old foes Lisdowney in the first round of the Northern U21 Roinn A championship. There is never much between these 2 sides when they meet at any level and after reaching the North final last year this was not going to be an easy task. However our lads were straight in and determined to have a serious go and hurled like they meant business in the first half. They restricted the opposition to just 5 points in the first half 4 of which were from frees. Playing against the wind we went in at half time with a total of 9 points and unlucky not to have at least one goal. The team management warned at the break to expect an onslaught at the start of the second half and that came with Lisdowney scoring an unanswered 1-3 to turn the tide in favour of them. But no different than we have seen over the last couple of years back came our lads and when they found their rhythm the scores flowed from all angles with a total of 6 players getting their names on the scoresheet. If Nicky Cleere gets injured next season a very capable sub showed his worth here with Kevin Brennan hitting 14 points in total on the day. The work rate by everyone was what pleased management most however and it made no difference what age or position you played every one of them gave a similar effort. Next up in the ¼ final is the challenge of city rivals James Stephens which goes ahead next Saturday. Again your support will be vital to help the squad face this stiff challenge. The final score in Castlecomer was Bennettsbridge 0-19 Lisdowney 1-10. The team lined out. B Tynan, Brian O Neill, S Byrne, Bill O Neill, C Murphy, J Cleere, S O Dwyer, L Blanchfield, K Blanchfield, L Dowling, M Shiel, K Brennan, D Coyne, S Morrissey, R Cleere. Sub used. M Walsh.
