The U14 hurlers were crowned Roinn B League County champions on Saturday when they defeated the Emeralds in the league final replay. Played in Tullaroan , this was a hard fought , close encounter that kept both sets of supporters on edge right up to the final whistle. Playing with the aid of a slight breeze Bennettsbridge went behind initially as Emeralds opened the scoring but then Bennettsbridge got going with a well worked and well taken goal. This was followed up by a couple of very good points. Emeralds, however began to claw their way back into the game with some points and it was nip and tuck up to half time with the Emeralds finding the net for a good goal. Bennettsbridge replied with a goal of their owned as they worked the ball up the field with some great passes and a very good finish to leave the half-time score BB 2-4 Emeralds 1-5. The second half continued in the same way with very little between the sides but then Emeralds got on top for a period and edged 1 point ahead with 10 mins remaining. However, this Bennettsbridge team has huge character and they showed this in abundance as they worked tirelessly both in defence and attack and eventually worked an opening to create a goal chance which was taken with aplomb. From there to the finish it was nerve-racking stuff but the Bridge boys held on magnificently for a 1 point win , BB 3-6 Emeralds 1-11. Captain Conor Murphy accepted the trophy  on behalf of the team

to scenes of great celebration.

This team have had a magnificent year so far , remaining unbeaten, they have secured the Tier League  and Tier Championship along with wining the local Feile competition and they have also qualified for the County Roinn B Championship when they defeated Ballyragget recently in the quarter final. Facing physically stronger opponents , this proved a tough , close encounter with only 2 points in it at half time. However the  Bridge boys played some great hurling throughout , brilliant in defence and clinical in attack to eventually run out winners on a scoreline of BB 2-10 to 2-4. They now face O’Loughlins B in the semi-final on Oct 5th and this is sure to be a massive challenge.
