Bennettsbridge lined out against Dunnamaggin in Round 3 of the Michael Lyng Motors Intermediate Hurling League in John Locke Park on Sunday evening last. Playing against the wind in the first half Dunnamaggin were first off the mark with a point from Noel Fitzpatrick. This however was followed quickly by 2 points for The Bridge courtesy of Aidan Cleere and Darragh Wafer. Fitzpatrick struck again after 4 minutes. Back came The Bridge again with 2 more from Brian Lannon and Aidan who was pushed up  into the half forward line due to players being away. Fitzpatrick hit his and his teams 3rd point after 10 mins and it was followed shortly after with a point from Seaghan O’Neill. Kevin Blanchfield hit a well worked point on 15 mins before Dunnamaggin hit 2 more from their midfielder Kearney and another from a free by O’Neill. Nicky Cleere got on the scoresheet after 21mins with a free and it was followed by one from Michaél Shiel on 24mins. That was to be the last score of the half for The Bridge side with Dunnamaggin hitting 3 in the final 8mins of the half. The Bridge side while not at their best were keeping in touch and were very wasteful driving a total of 8 wides in the half. The second half started a little brighter and when Noel Hickey fouled B Lannon he not only gave N Cleere his second point of the game but he also got a yellow card for his troubles. Kearney got his second score of the game with a point from a 65 after 5 minutesbut then The Bridge hit 2 more from Sean Morrissey and another free from Nicky who was finding his range. There was a long spell after this with no scores which was eventually ended by a well taken point from K Blanchfield. Back came Dunnamaggin and a point from midfielder Fitzpatrick saw the game tied up again with 6 minutes to go. However our local heroes finished off with a flurry hitting 4 points to 1 in the run home. It was not without its moments and when Liam Blanchfield rained in on goal it looked all but sealed however the ball edged wide. Then Dunnamaggin had their moment and but for a brilliant stop by Enda Morrissey the result could have been so different. Still The Bridge deserved the win and can now enjoy a break until July when they face Lisdowney on the 11th. After 3 Rounds we are on full points and safe of the dreaded drop and hopefully we can push on towards a league win.
