Bennettsbridge through to another Leinster Final after tough battle with Bray Emmets

This game was all about the weather. Before a ball was struck the venue had to be changed to Arklow due to the rain that was falling last Sunday morning. If you think of hurling and Kilkenny V Wicklow you would say there could only be one winner. But in fairness to this Bray team they are able to hurl and were well coached by one John Henderson of Fenians fame. So after a warm up on a small pitch across the railway line it was down to business on a sodden pitch where divets were been cut into the sod by studs from players sliding. Both teams must be congratulated for the efforts in conditions on a field that simply was not playable. It was only when the referee made a major call midway through the second half that kicked the Bridge boys into top gear. Having blown the whistle for a free to Bray and their only scorer on the day taking a shot on goal which was stopped by Enda Cleere and after a slight bobble cleared that the referee decided to award a goal and disregard his earlier call. After much dispute the goal was granted and the difference was down to just 2 points. This got our lads going and they scored the next 7 points to put a fairer complexion on the scoreboard. It was a case of job done and glad to come away without any serious injuries. Whatever the weather some things never change and with Nickey Cleere scoring 10 points again and Brian Lannon coming on for a brief 9 minutes where he scored 2 points and set up another and Kevin Blanchfield and Sean Morrissey covering every blade of grass on the field.  Next up will be a home Leinster Final on Saturday 28th Nov most likely in Nowlan Park. It was a shame the weather played such a big part in this game but there were still moments of greatness we have come to expect from this team. Liam Blanchfields point near the end being one along with a save from the Bray keeper from a Sean Morrissey strike been the other of most note. Bennettsbridge 0-18  Bray Emmetts 1-6
