In a single word Character was what it was all about. After a pulsating final in Nowlan Park Bennettsbridge live to fight another day. The Bridge suffered a double whammy in the first quarter of this game with St. Patricks captain Michael scoring a brace of goals to push his side into a six point lead. However back came Bennettsbridge and by half time the margin was down to just 2 points. The Bennettsbridge management were happy to be so close but must have been unhappy at conceding  2 goals so early in the game. The second half did not start as the Bridge boys would have liked and it was Michael Brennan who finished another attack to the Bridge net. Enda Cleere had just made a great save from Kevin Kelly but the rebound was finished to the net and this left our boys 4 points behind again. But as we all know by now this Bridge team do not give up and back they came. St. Patricks defence were under constant pressure at this stage and continuous   fowling of a number of our forwards resulted in Nickey Cleere taking his chances as they came. St. Patricks were also picking up a number of yellow cards and with 5 minutes to go they were reduced to 14 men. In the end a draw was probably a fair result and both teams must do it all over again. The replay will most likely take place on Saturday next but whenever it is it will be another ding dong game.
