Bennettsbridge 1-19 James Stephens 3-13 Well at this stage we are running out of words to describe this team but I think last Sundays result was possibly the most amazing result of all the battles fought. The lads were down by 11 points after just 16 minutes after been hit by a perfect storm from the town team. 2-06 to a single point was the score at that stage and the long run of 30 games looked like it was coming to an abrupt stop. But as we have seen on so many occasions back they came and as the points floated over the crossbar so also did the belief in the team. At half time we were still 7 points adrift and this surely was a bridge too far. However with the start of the second half came the fightback. Within a minute Sean Morrissey won a ball and as he drove for goal he made space and finished neatly to the net. Nicky Cleere hit 3 pointed frees on the trot and suddenly after just 5 minutes the deficit was a single point. After the Village hit 2 and The Bridge 1 pointed frees disaster hit when a deflected shot found its way to the Bridge net and again we were 5 points down. Back we came and Nicky made no mistake when after our battling forwards were fouled he put the ball between the posts. Nicky hit an amazing 14 points during the hour. In the end The Bridge could have won it when a couple of chances fell their way only to find a Village block ,hook or body in the way. This was a tremendous game to get a result from and hopefully it will be the platform for a good run in the league. The Team was: E Cleere, E Morrissey, J Moran, C Wafer, E Fitzgerald, J Cleere, A Cleere, D Wafer, K Blanchfield(0-1), H O’Neill(0-1), B Lannon(0-1), N Cleere(0-14), M Shiel, L Blanchfield(0-2), S Morrissey(1-0). Next up will be St. Martins on May 15th. |
