Bennettsbridge Seniors lose to Dicksboro in their penultimate league match

The Senior team took to the field after a long break last Friday night against Dicksboro in St. Johns Park. Unlike on so many occasions in the past this time we were out of the blocks fast and held a good 5 point lead at half time. This lead could easily have been greater only to see a one on one situation with their goalkeeper deflected and cleared and a penalty saved after 20 minutes. Then the second half began with some incredible inter changes resulting in our forwards opening up the Boro defence resulting in Liam Blanchfield in a one on one situation again and this time there was no mistake and this now extending the lead to 8 points. Amazingly this was to be the last score from play and just 2 pointed frees from Nicky Cleere was the net return for the second half. The Boro took charge and gradually knocked over point after point and finished the game a comfortable 3 points in front. This was bitterly disappointing for our lads and there was silence in the dressing room after the game. The first half was so different with goals from Brian Lannon after just 4 minutes helped by the marauding Sean Morrissey before Sean again finished to the net after 28 minutes. There was also some very sweet point taking from many of our lads leaving the opposition stretched at the back. It will be the end result that will be counted however and Dicksboro went home with the points and we went home thinking what might have been. There is now a 5 week break before the next game against a wiley Fenians side who have so much experience in fighting tight battles. Our team was E Cleere, E Murphy, J Moran, C Wafer, J Cleere(0-1), R Lennon, A Cleere, D Wafer, H O’Neill, B Lannon(1-0), K Blanchfield(0-1), N Cleere(0-4fs,1.65), S Morrissey(1-1) W Murphy(0-1), L Blanchfield(1-1). Sub used M Shiel.
