Bennettsbridge Seniors and Mullinvat serve up a cracker in championship and must do it again

As the score suggests this was a pulsating game for anyone who braved the elements to go and watch two teams go hammer and thongs at each other with no winners and certainly no losers. From the throw in it was nip and tuck with nobody prepared to give an inch. To be fair Mullinavat were winning the physical stakes but to the credit of our lads they kept trying to play themselves into the game and bit by bit it showed some reward. At half time we were down on a scoreline of 1-8 to 1-9 with the Bridge goal coming from Brian Lannon after a good build up. The heavens opened at half time and when the second half began conditions were very difficult for everyone. A super line ball from Sean Morrissey drew the sides level and suddenly things started to happen for the lads. A second goal from Liam Blanchfield put the Bridge into a goal lead and when Brian Lannon hit his second things were looking very good for a win. Back came Mullinavat and they got 2 goals of their own. There was nothing between the sides when a long delivery from Nicky Cleere was followed in by Kevin Brennan who made enough of a nuisance of himself and the ball ended up in the net. Again things looked good for a win but back again came the men from the south and with the clock going red it was all square. A great point from former minor county star John Walsh put Mullinavat in front after a Bridge 65 went agonisingly wide left us in trouble. But as so often in the past we bounced back and a foul resulted in a pressure free for Nicky Cleere who made no mistake and a replay was the fairest solution to a wonderful game of hurling. A couple of injuries in the first half will keep our physio busy during the week and lets hope he weaves his magic again so we have a near full panel to choose from next weekend.

Our team was E Cleere, J Moran, R Lennon, E Murphy, E Morrissey(0-1), J Cleere, A Cleere, D Wafer, K Blanchfield, S Morrissey(0-1), L Blanchfield(1-1), N Cleere(1-10), M Shiel, B Lannon(2-0), W Murphy. Subs Used. C Wafer, D Walsh and K Brennan.
