Bennettsbridge Junior 'B' side continued their unbeaten run with a late and dramatic win over Clara in Clara last night. The two sides had met previously with the lads winning handy on that occasion but last night was different where Clara had a few new faces in their team. The match was tough and competitive and Clara went in two points ahead at half time. Clara scored first in the second half and then the match seemed to turn in Bennettsbridges' favour when a Clara player was shown a red card for a wild and dangerous pull on Eddie fitzgerald who was the pick of the bunch on the night. However Clara got their second goal of the night after some lax defending to put them four points up with around six minutes remaining. A positional switch by the Bridge selectors moving Captain James Moran from full back to full forward turned out to be a master stroke. The ball was well worked up the pitch and James got the ball where he seemed to be in a very tight angle but he buried the ball to the keepers right to put one between the sides going into the last minute or two. The Bridge then got a free that brought the sides level and the last play of the game was another well worked move up the pitch where Kevin Brennan got the ball in a very wide position but he executed it lovely splitting the posts to put the Bridge a point up and on the restart the referee blew the full time whistle. The final score was Clara 2-13 Bennettsbridge 2-14. The Bridge team lined out as: Ben Tynan, Bill O Neill, James Moran, Shane Nolan, Michael Power, Gareth Hickey, Sean Wemyss, Eddie Fitzgerald, Kevin Brennan, Michael Shiel, Willie Murphy, Gary Geoghaghan, Aidan Byrne (Sub 50mins Eddie Murphy), Tim Dooley, Luke Dowling. |
