Bennettsbridge Junior B team record their second win after tough battle with Threecastles

Bennettsbridge played their second game of the new season against Threecastles last Saturday evening. If the early exchanges were anything to go by this looked as if it could be an easy win for the Bridge boys. Leading on a score of 0-7 to 0-3 after just 15 minutes all seemed to be going nicely for the lads but in the game of hurling things can change very quickly and that is how it turned out here. Just 5 minutes later we were trailing by 2 and for the remainder of the half the home side were not to convert a single chance. In fact they went in trailing by those 2 goals and to be fair the men from Threecastles were good value for their lead. The second half began the same way as the first did with the Bridge hitting the opening point. Then in a 5 minute spell 2 goals from Patrick O’Neill and a long range strike from Shane Byrne turned the tables again and the home side were back in the driving seat. A second converted penalty for Threecastles meant the visitors were not going to lie down. This put the visitors back in the lead by a point but this was to be their final score and with the Bridge hitting another 1-2 with Luke Dowling raising the green flag from another long range strike it left the home side on full points after the opening 2 games of the season. In fairness this should have been more comfortable but when you are missing a number of players it will always test a teams resolve. The Bridge Team was . B Tynan, A Byrne, E Fitzgerald, B O’Neill, S Byrne(1-1), Paul O’Neill, S Wemyss, L Dowling(1-1), K Brennan(0-5), R Walsh, Patrick O’Neill(0-1), D Walsh(0-3), J Murphy, T Kiely(0-1), M Walsh. Subs used: G Hayes, L Mc Carthy, P Duggan.
