Bennettsbridge Junior B team come up short against Danesfort in the semi final

The Junior B Team lined out against local rivals Danesfort on Sunday in the Northern Semi Final in Clara. After some recent fine performances they knew they had to be at their best to get the better of this Danesfort team. The Bridge got off to the perfect start after hard working Tim Dooley was fouled inside the square and Willie Murphy made no mistake from the resulting penalty. Danesfort got a point back before Kevin Brennan and Eddie Murphy put the Bridge in a strong position. However a well taken goal by Danesfort turned the momentum in their favour and from there up to half time they took control with some well worked points. The Bridge went in at half time down by 6 points after not reaching the levels they had in recent games. Some lines on the Bridge team were finding it hard to get to grips with their opponents and there was a major job for the management at half time to retrieve this game. They made 1 change and rejigged the team to try and offer some penetration. Shane Hanley the half time sub scored an early point to show leadership but it was quickly answered. Then a bit of luck saw Kevin Brennan hit a free which went all the way to the Danesfort net. Now there was some light at the end of the tunnel and reason to believe. It did not come however and Danesfort took control again. Paul O’Neill was introduced and added a bit of bite in the middle of the park but support was scarce and Danesfort added on points at will. They stretched their lead to seven approaching full time and right at the depth another free which was stopped eventually ended up in the net to put some respectability on the final score of 1-21 to 3-10 in favour of Danesfort. Our Team was B Tynan, A Byrne, E Fitzgerald, B O’Neill, S Byrne, P O’Neill, L Dowling(0-1), K Brennan(1-6), E Murphy(0-1), H Corkery, M Shiel, W Murphy(1-0), D Walsh(0-1), T Dooley, T Kiely. Subs used S Hanley(0-1), P O’Neill, R O’Connor(1-0).
