Bennettsbridge ran out comfortable winners of this Junior B Hurling Championship game played in sunny conditions in Bennettsbridge on a Saturday evening. The game got off to a lively start and when Maurice Walsh collected a ball out near the sideline he hit for a point but when the ball dropped short the keeper was blinded by the sun and the ball ended up in the net. Galmoy hit back with a pointed free after 3 minutes. They would have to wait a further 13 minutes to raise another flag and in that time Bennettsbridge put on 5 points including a well taken Joe Murphy effort and a well worked Richie Walsh strike who was covering a lot of ground. From the 15th minute to half time points were exchanged but the Bridge were in control and passing the ball around nicely. Two more Richie Walsh points and scores from Kevin Brennan and a fine strike from Shane Byrne the pick of them. For Galmoy a fine strike from wing back Sean Phelan was the pick of their scores. They went in at half time 1-11 to 0-6 and the Bridge management team could not be happier with the efforts of a very young panel. Tom Kiely and Richie Walsh were doing a lot of the heavy work in the forward line and the likes of Kevin Brennan and Maurice Walsh were picking up any breaking ball. For Galmoy Sean Phelan and Brandon Phelan were causing most problems. The second half began with probably the score of the game. Kevin Brennan won a ball in midfield and delivered in to Richie Walsh. Richie saw Maurice Walsh breaking away and delivered into his path and Maurice duly converted for a lovely score. The second half was not as intense as the first but the Bridge while sometimes over played things always looked like winning. Another lovely worked score was converted by Richie Walsh who had his scoring eye in for this game and when he was not scoring he was setting up some of the younger legs for one. Galmoy brought on Evan Morrissey for Brendan Sherman after 40 minutes and he proved hard to handle in front of goal. It was Thomas Phelan however who caused most problems and he ended with 1-1 in the final 5 minutes to put a fairer reflection on the scoreboard.
