Bennettsbridge Junior 'B' secure second win in Northern championship

posted Jul 7, 2014, 3:39 AM by Alan Flynn
Bennettsbridge had another good win after a tough battle with Freshford in Bennettsbridge on Saturday night last.  The lads started very brightly and could have scored 2 or three goals in the opening five minutes of the game but after a lot of good play and quick passing the lads took their points well and the goal eventually came when Gary Geoghaghan fired a great shot home to the left bottom corner of the Freshford net.  The Bridge went in at half time with a great lead of 1-12 to 0-06. They pressed on after the break and kept taking their points and building on their lead but then the Freshford boys started believing in themselves and got a goal out of nothing and the Bridge lost their shape for a spell and let Freshford in for another two soft goals. At one stage the Bridge were leading by 12 points but going into the last five minutes of the match there was only 5 points between them but the Bridge saw the game out and held on for a good win.  The final score was Bennettsbridge 1-24 Freshford 3-15. Bennettsbridge team lined out as - Ben Tynan, Shane Nolan, James Moran, Bill O'Neill, Shane Byrne (0-1), Gareth Hickey (0-1), Seam Wemyss, Michael Shiels (0-3), Eddie Fitzgerald (0-1), Gary Geoghaghan (1-5),  Willie Murphy (0-8, 5f), Kevin Brennan (0-2), Aidan Byrne (Sub- Luke Dowling 50mins), Richie Walsh, Dylan Walsh (0-3).

Next up for the Bennettsbridge Junior 'B' team is the final of the Joe Walsh cup which takes place in Clara against Clara next Sunday.  Hope to see a good crowd there to cheer on the lads.
