Bennettsbridge Junior B finish second best against a resilient Carrigeen

Carrigeen 4-15   Bennettsbridge 1-13

They say the scoreboard never lies and so it was last Friday evening in Carrigeen but in fairness the scoreboard did not tell the full story. 2-3 in the last 4 minutes did put a bad look on things but to be fair to Carrigeen they were the hungrier side and they celebrated with great joy after the game. Ben Tynan had made a great save midway through the second half and this gave the Bridge lads a lift but after Ben hurt a finger and was unable to even puck out the ball things went downhill for the Bridge lads. Carrigeen were the first off the mark with 2 points after just 3 minutes. The Bridge hit back with 2 of their own and it was a goal on 23 minutes by the hard working Patrick O’Neill that put the Bridge into the lead for the first and only time in the game. Straight from the puck out Carrigeen hit the net themselves and at half time the sides went in all square 1-6 each. A second goal after 7 minutes put Carrigeen in the driving seat and so it stayed until the final flurry put a gloss on the result. The Bridge were represented by B Tynan, B O’Neill, E Fitzgerald, A Byrne, E Murphy, Paul O’Neill, S Wemyss, K Brennan(0-9), L Dowling(0-1), S Byrne(0-1), Patrick O’Neill(1-1), D Walsh(0-1), G Hayes, R Walsh, M Walsh. Sub T Kiely, J Murphy.

This coming Sunday Bennettsbridge will take on local rivals Danesfort in the O’Byrne Cup in Danesfort.
