Threecastles 0-18 Bennettsbridge 2-12
Both Bennettsbridge teams were out over the last week with the Junior B team playing Threecastles and the Intermediate team playing James Stephens. First up was the Junior B Team in Threecastles where they came away with a draw. The Bridge side got off to a flying start with a point followed up with a goal within 2 minutes of the start. Threecastles came back however and hit points from all over the field and aided by a strong wind hit 10 points by the break. The Bridge in return hit 2-4 with the goals coming from Dylan Walsh and a quick reacting strike from Richie Walsh. Aided by the wind in the second half it was hoped we would push on but it was the opposition who came out stronger. It was nip and tuck all the way to the finish with both teams having chances of winning the game.
Next up was the challenge of our Intermediate team against the Village senior team in The O’Byrne Cup. Both teams were missing a number of players and this was a very entertaining game up to half time. The sides went in all square at half time with Sean Morrissey hitting the only goal of the half. The Bridge again played against the wind in the first half so the management were pleased going in at half time. The Village were quickest to start the second half with 2 early points after just 3 minutes. Then after a tussle for the ball and it been cleared up the field a James Stephens player went down in severe pain and the referee was called. The player Harry Wallace was in agony on the ground with a serious knee injury and after some 20minutes an ambulance arrived and the game was abandoned. The club would like to wish Harry a speedy recovery and hope to see him back on the field in the near future. |
