Anyone interested in horse racing will admire what Willie Mullins is doing over the last couple of years. Anyone alive in County Kilkenny is well aware of what Bennettsbridge GAA Club is achieving over the same 2 years. Unbelievably most of the young lads on this great team are not aware of the enormity of what they are doing. Speaking to a couple of the more mature (in age that is) lads on the team they are well aware of what is happening, Some would say they thought at times they would end up with no medal after giving years of playing the game we all love. And so to last Saturday and another great performance. In many ways it was as good as any match they have played over the last 2 years where they remain unbeaten. Playing in conditions that were not hurling conditions our lads just went out there and took control from the very start. Sometimes they have been slow to start and grind you down bit by bit but on Saturday they just blew a decent team away. What was so good also and what Christy Walsh should be most happy with was the spread of the score takers. The way these boys play and attack a defence there has often been a lot of frees awarded simply to stop them scoring goals. With such heavy conditions the referee used common sense a lot of the time and gave our lads the advantage and as a result the forwards took their scores. The quality of some of the points was a delight to watch and it was only a miracle they did not add a few goals. Looking at the 2 games in Leinster before Christmas the team looked a little tired which is understandable but after taking a couple of weeks off the lads came back fresh and ready to go. The one cause for concern was the injury to captain Enda Morrissey and hopefully Tommy Bawle can perform his magic again and get Enda who is so important to the team back and ready for action in time. So on Sunday 7th of February all roads will lead to the Mecca of GAA games in Croke Park. The club will provide transport to all who don’t want to drive and again you can contact Alan Flynn on 086 3330836 to book your seat. There will be regular updates on our Facebook and Twitter pages for you to keep informed with all developments. The support again on Saturday was great with 3 busses traveling from the village and plenty of people driving also. The team and score last Saturday was E Cleere, J Moran, R Lennon, C Wafer, J Cleere, E Morrissey(capt), A Cleere, D Wafer(0-1), K Blanchfield, H O’Neill(0-3), N Cleere(0-7), B Lannon(0-1), S Morrissey(0-2), L Blanchfield, M Shiel. Subs used W Murphy(0-1), S Wemyss. |
