Bennettsbridge won their last game in the group stage of the league by beating Barrow Rangers in fine style on Saturday evening in Paulstown. The Bridge started strongly and got some great scores in the opening 15 minutes but they gave away some needless frees which kept Barrow Rangers in sight and the Bridge went in 3 points up at half time after doing all the hurling where they should have been well clear. The opening minute of the second half saw the Bridge raise a green flag from Willie Murphy and after that they kept Barrow Rangers at arms length for the remainder of the game eventhough Barrow Rangers pressed and threatened the goal on a few occasions the lads held firm and cleared their lines. There was an unpleasant incident towards the end of the game where there was a 20 man shimozzle which was not helped by the official on the night for not holding up play and dealing with some earlier situations. The game finished on a scoreline of Barrow Rangers 0-13 Bennettsbridge 1-20. Bennettsbridge lined out as: Enda Cleere, Cormac Wafer, Robert Lennon, Sean Wemyss, Jason Cleere, Enda Morrissey, Aidan Cleere (0-02), Kevin Blanchfield (0-02), Darragh Wafer, Michael Shiel, Willie Murphy (1-01), Nicky Cleere (0-06, 6F), Sean Morrissey (0-4), Hugh O Neill (0-01), Liam Blanchfield (0-04).
Bennettsbridge have won all five matches in the league and now look forward to a league final against Piltown who topped the other group. It all bodes well for the Bridge in possibly scooping the Junior team of the year award which was introduced this year and is sponsored by JJ Kavanagh. |
