Bennettsbridge advance to qtr final of the Kilkenny junior championship after a hard fought opener against Windgap in Callan. This game was always going to be tricky as they were red hot favourites going into the game and the lads never got their flow going but they were always in control of the game. Windgap opened the scoring and then the lads responded with some well taken points and then they got their goal which settled them further. Windgap put it up to the Bridge but they drove alot of bad wides where the Bridge were far more efficient. A couple of injuries to two key personnel on the Bridge team lead to some concern but the replacements did not weaken the side and showed further the strength of the panel. The Bridge won the game on a scoreline of 1-17 to 0-11.
The Bridge lined out as follows: Enda Cleere, Sean Wemyss, Robert Lennon, James Moran, Cormac Wafer sub HT Eddie Fitzgerald, Jason Cleere, Aidan Cleere (0-02 sub 40 mins Eddie Murphy), Kevin Blanchfield, Darragh Wafer (0-01), Hugh O'Neill (0-03), Nicky Cleere (0-09, 6f), Michael Shiel, Liam Blanchfield (1-00), Willie Murphy (sub 45 mins Brian Lannon 0-02), Sean Morrissey.
Next up for the Bridge is the Junior League final against Piltown next week and hopefully the result will be better than the outcome last year. The draw for the quarter final of the championship will not take place until Monday 22/9/14.
